Metallization is a method of modifying the surface features of products by applying a functional metal coating on them. In this case, for the treated surface is given other physical, mechanical and chemical features. Coatings are applied to surfaces previously processed to mechanical abrasive treatment using the electric arc metallization (EDM) method. Metal wires, including powder wires, are used as the initial filler material, which are melted by an electric arc, followed by spraying a gas jet (argon, helium, nitrogen) or compressed air over the surface of the workpiece and creating a metallized coating of a multilayer structure on it. At the same time, a relatively low (no more than 120 ° C) heating of the surface of the workpiece which completely eliminates structural changes in the base metal and its deformation.
Coatings created by the electric arc metallization method have found application in corrosion protection systems:
- metal structures;
- reinforced concrete supports (bridges, trestles, overpasses);
- pipelines, fuel and oil storage facilities;
- technological equipment of oil and petrochemical industries, heating networks.
